One Way NOT To Heat Your Home This Winter
1/10/2022 (Permalink)
Now that 2022 is here, it seems like the cold weather is here to stay for the season. With temperatures set to dip into the teens this week, homeowners will definitely be turning their heat up a little higher. Some homeowners, in an attempt to be frugal and efficient, will try to use other heat sources to provide any extra warmth during these cold months. But as we see every year, these methods may lead to fire and smoke damage, and even injury to the inhabitants.
One such method is using your oven to provide an extra heat source. This is unsafe for many reasons:
- If you have a gas stove, this can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning
- A gas stove can also lead to fire, as the flammable gas is leaking out into the living space
- If you have an electric stove, it can overheat due to prolonged use, and start a fire that way
- Any open or exposed heat source can be a hazard for children or pets in the home
- Beyond safety, it is much more efficient to run a small space heater than an oven
It is important to contact a fire damage restoration professional as soon as the flames are extinguished to help limit and remediate the damage.
