Storms come in many different sizes and intensities.  At the worst, storms can destroy property through gusts of wind, torrential downpour of rain, or through the sheer weight of snow.  Homeowners know how to spot these damages, in part, because they are easy to detect, and are brought on during an obvious storm.

But damage can occur even when a storm is mild.  Sometimes this damage can be worse, as it can go unseen and undetected for a while.  In a light rain storm, ground water can rise just enough to seep into your basement.  If gutters are not properly attached, even a small storm can cause a significant amount of damage.  If your roof has a small leak, you may not notice water pouring into your home, but water can trickle in and cause major damage over time.  

This type of damage, if unnoticed and remediated, can lead to structural damage and mold growth down the line.  After a light storm, you should be in the habit of checking areas that you may know to be problem areas.  It is also a good idea to routinely inspect your property to ensure that no weak areas are present.
